2009 Resolutions

I am glad that i have taken up new challenges in 2008. This year might seem short to some but it had been a fruitful year for me. I have started to bake and cook, finished my university degree, taken my JLPT3 japanese exam(fail or pass, i am still proud of myself for finishing the 3 hour exam with blurry vision)

I am all set for bigger challenges in the new year. I am still thinking of what new things to learn though and i guess i should start to set a deadline for completing my Masters Degree.

MY Resolutions:
1. Improve on my Japanese, Korean, French and Cantonese
2. My car license
3. Continue with Yoga,exercise more
4. Bake more, cook more food from different cuisines
5. Start jewellery making and knitting
6. Read~ i havent been reading enough yet
7. SMILE**** i have always been smiling. People who knows me well will know my hidden talent of being able to ‘自High’. I really don't wish to exchange my smile with a frown, please don't take it away from me.
8. Eat well, cut down on unhealthy snacks and pile up the greens
9. Take better care of my skin
10.Sleep before 12 every night or at least 8 hours of sleep
11.Aromatherapy, hopefully i can get a certificate, it's so popular in Japan
12.Start my tea ceremony classes
13.Go for my first SQ interview

I believe that it will be another fabulous year for me, another page to add to the chapters of my life.

CanCam最新号

Before i start off with my blog for tonight,I would like to share the following with anyone who is reading this entry right now. I chanced upon these words while reading the facebook memorial page of Ms Lo Hwei Yen who passed away tragically in the merciless hands of terrorism.

"One day, the villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer everyone gathered & only 1 boy came with an umbrella. That's CONFIDENCE.
When you throw a 1 year old baby in the air, he laughs because he knows you will catch him. That's TRUST.( I agreed to this!)
Every night we go to bed, we're not sure that we'll get up tomorrow, but we still have many plans for the coming day. That's HOPE."
Aren't these meaningful? I know i might be quite emotional when it comes to writing in the wee hours of the night when the whole world is sleeping. I wouldn't recommend everyone to stay up late at night but i do find these hours to be the most extraordinarily peaceful amongst the 24 hours.

This is the 9th year that i have been reading Cancam♥, the Japanese fashion magazine coined as the Fashion Bible for Japanese females for almost 3 decades and producing numerous famous models and actresses. I will always remember that very day when i held my first issue of Cancam in my hands, in Narita Airport during the christmas season, not knowing that this magazine will be accompanying me for the next decade and many more to come. I can still vividly see the guard standing outside the airport with his huge bulky winter coat in the 12 degree celsius chilly japanese winter. My friends will know how much Cancam means to me. Throughout these 9 years, i have seen many changes in Cancam, different models, different fashion stages, models turning into actresses, models getting married, the creation of Anecan, the sister magazine of Cancam which targets at females above the age of 25.I am indulging in reminiscing again but those are part of my fond memories of my teenage life.

Well this is the lastest issue of Cancam...with Yamada Yu and Nishiyama Maki on the cover..i wil always buy the February issue of every year's Cancam as it comes with a calendar for the year, yes February issue 2009. That's how the Japanese magazine industry works.

The Calendar...some pages of it.

Some of my favourite pages...
Makiちゃんtrying to teach us the ways of making valentine goodies...mixing vegetables with chocolates~ wonder how they taste like. I will help to give some translations~
The two recipes provided the instructions to these two goodies.

(1) カボチャチーズケーキPumpkin Cheesecake(with white chocolate)
(2) サツマイモのトリュフチョコYam Truffles
Sounds interesting? Looking at the recipes did arouse my interests to some extent to try them out myself:)

Makiちゃんwith a bag from Chanel Cruise Collectionヾ(♥ó㉨ò)ノ♡I want a white Chanel 2.55 so much...大人なバッグですね~上品なスタイル゚.+:。゙d(・ω・*)ネッ゚.+:

I couldnt believe that Yamada Yu will be graduating from Cancam soon as well. I watched her appearing in the pages of Cancam since she was 18 and now she's 24.Time flies.

Great Picture of Beyonce and Kimura Takuya.
Samantha Thavasa is a very popular brand in Japan。Victoria Beckham, Paris Hilton,Penelope and Monica Cruz and etc had been involved in the designing of their products in the past.

At the Shanghainese restaurant@Suntec City with Captain
Ratings: 7/10, I refuse to give them more marks because they dont have the 玉米烙 that i have eaten in Shanghai during my internship period 3 years ago...残念~

The golden lanterns hanging up high....sorry that my hands were shaking quite a bit when i took the second shot.
Glutinous Rice Wrapped in Lotus Leaf...a bit too salty for my liking...it tasted salty even when i have just recovered from a sore throat and fever~
Almonds, Old Cucumber Pork Ribs Soup, i am desperate in need of some nutritious food to regain my health....
Chinese Pastries filled with Spring Onions and Meat, pop some mints after this~
These are not the 葱油饼 that i wanted to eat though...miss those shanghai days...
Diced Chicken in spicy sauce 大千鸡, those are asparagus, aren't they?

Christmas Message from The Pope- Selfishness

This article touched my heart greatly after reading it at past midnight with a high fever with a sore throat as its accomplice. Well, i will never give in to these viruses attacking me. Yeah i should sleep earlier but i just couldn't finish clearing up the mess in the kitchen after baking. I felt guilty after reading it.My guilt is not because of the fact that i have spent on luxury items and lifestyle during this christmas. It's just because i have yet to take any actions to help them. I really hope that i will be able to start working soon:)
To all the Christians and Catholics out there, if one day if you happen to come across my blog, think of what is the real rationale behind God's messages.
I believe that everything that we do in our lifetimes is to contribute to the world and to help and love your fellow mankind. I am not a Christian anyway:) Just a penny of my thoughts.
I guess the pope is not trying to convey the message of giving up extravagant lifestyles, but to share what you have with the poor third world nations, with millions and billions of mankind suffering in poverty and extreme hunger.
People have seemed to forget about this. The world is about striking a balance in all areas. Wealth distribution follows the same logic as well.
As what i have written in my previous entries in my blog, i really wish that more people will come forward to lend a helping hand to third world nations.
There are many ways that you can help,a small donation goes a long way.
Even a simple blood donation can do wonders.

VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict XVI warned in his Christmas message Thursday that the world was headed toward ruin if selfishness prevails over solidarity during tough economic times for rich and poor nations.

Speaking from the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica, Benedict declared that the "heart of the Christian message is meant for all men and women."

The traditional papal Christmas Day message "Urbi et Orbi" _ Latin for "to the City and to the World" _ usually covers the globe's hot spots, but this year Benedict also addressed the economic conditions worrying many across the planet amid near-daily news of layoffs, failing companies and people losing homes.

Benedict said his Christmas message applied to "wherever an increasingly uncertain future is regarded with apprehension, even in affluent nations."

"In each of these places may the light of Christmas shine forth and encourage all people to do their part in a spirit of authentic solidarity," Benedict said. "If people look only to their own interests, our world will certainly fall apart."

Benedict said he hoped the light of Christmas would radiate to places where "the basics needed for survival are missing."

Wearing a crimson mantle against a damp chill, Benedict told tens of thousands of people in St. Peter's Square that God's saving grace could "alone transform evil into good" and "change human hearts, making them oases of peace."

Benedict dedicated part of his message to Africa, singling out Zimbabwe, where hunger is spreading and deepening. He said that people there were "trapped for too long in a political and social crisis which, sadly, keeps worsening."

International pressure has been mounting for longtime Zimbabwe leader Robert Mugabe to step down, following disputed elections in March. Millions of Zimbabwe's people need food aid, and a cholera epidemic has sharpened problems in a country once considered African's breadbasket.

Suffering also continues in the war-ravaged region of Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and in Darfur, Sudan, the pope added. In Somalia, people are weighed down with "interminable sufferings" as "the tragic consequences of the lack of stability and peace," he said.

Benedict spoke of violence and tensions in the Middle East, lamenting that "the horizon seems once again bleak for Israelis and Palestinians."

He denounced what he called the "twisted logic of conflict and violence" and said he hoped dialogue and negotiation would prevail to find "just and lasting solutions to the conflicts troubling the region."

Benedict also cited Lebanon and Iraq.

Without naming any particular groups, the pope called for an end to "internecine conflict" dividing ethnic and social groups and disrupting peaceful coexistence. He also denounced terrorism "wherever" it continues to strike.

After reading a litany of the world's woes, the pope added a lighter touch, reciting holiday greetings in 64 languages, including Latin, the Church's official tongue.

The pope had rested for a few hours after celebrating Midnight Mass in St. Peter's Basilica in the early hours of Thursday.

During that ceremony, the pope lamented the suffering of children who are abandoned, living on the streets or forced to serve as soldiers in conflicts.

My Banana Bread Loaf+Melon Pan

バナナパンとメロンパンが作りました。。。
初めてパンを作るです。。
My first time making banana bread loaf and melon pan(it's a kind of japanese bread), you can find ready made ones at Sun Moulin Bakery at Isetan Orchard.

I'm glad that my banana bread loaf turned out to be soft and moist, i added lots of walnuts and banana in the bread!!!!

My melon pan~ 。。

Next time, i will cut the bread slightly shallower:)
I will try making them again in other flavours such as cheese melon pan, green tea melon pan.I heard that this bread is a hit amongst japanese kids! I guess the sugar coating on the top layer of the bread is one of the reasonね~

メリークリスマスMerry Christmas

みんなさん、メリークリスマス~
今晩、Clarke Quayに行きました。。。

The different times of the world.

晩ご飯@トモ居酒屋@クラークキー Tomo Izakaya@Clarke Quay
I was quite disappointed with the restaurant and service.
It seemed like everything that i wanted to order was unavailable:( and the waitress seemed inexperienced, well i could forgive her on that.
The restaurant seemed to be cold and lonely, with only a few tables of patrons. I guess Singaporeans are not interested in japanese cuisine as an option for a Christmas dinner.

鮪中トロ寿しとサーモン寿しTuna Fatty Belly and Salmon Sushi
The sushi(s)were fairly alright....especially the salmon pieces.

キングプロンの卵ソース King Prawns With Tamago(Egg) Sauce
The sauce was quite flavoury....hope that they can improve on the freshness of the prawns though.

八海山さけ。。。Rice Wine(Sake)

That's my earrings that i bought in Australia. I miss Aussie so much:( I love how they looked on the bar counter.

what should i bake tomorrow? I am feeling so sick because of my dreadful sore throat but nothing can stop my baking fetish..
I still need to go to town to get the latest issue of Cancam and Anecan...and Liang Court for 爽健美茶。

雪のクリスマス☆マフィン

I thought that my cupcakes look kinda 'christmasy'.
Merry Christmas to everyone:)

Almond Muffins....

Nutella Cupcakes Topped with Melty Kiss(Dark Rum flavour)Chocolate Coating

I want some moet and chandon rose champagne:)

沢尻エリカ is getting married....oh my gosh....Leah Dizon has just got married too.
One similarity that Erika and Leah shared with me-- The three of us are all 22 years of age....Seems like the entire world is getting married.

I think i have to introduce something about Singapore...i couldnt really find anything that's really related to Singapore's culture except this

MEE POH~~~~~~~~~~~~~~it is a kind of flat noodles eaten commonly in Singapore and Malaysia.Yes, it's from Myojo, a japanese company but they have incorporated tastes of Singapore into many of their products, yeah the wonders of Marketing. In Singapore, Mee Poh can be found easily in food centres and is usually served with fishballs or meatballs. The best part about Mee Poh? It's so cheap~ it cost an average of $3 in food centres. This is just the instant version of the 本物:)

Tsubaki's latest CM(japanese term for advertisements)....i am a few months late though...i have been a fan of Shiseido's Tsubaki haircare line advertisements ever since its re-launch campaign 3 years ago and has been following closely with all its CMs. I still remembered watching the CM alone in the hotel in Okayama and listening to SMAP singing 'Dear Woman', the theme song for the product line.
I have always thought that the marketing for Tsubaki has captured the hearts of many japanese women with its catchy phrase--日本の女性は美しい。
I have used the shampoo and conditioner for 3 years~ I love the white range, smells heavenly.
