On Beauty+ Nelson Mandela's Grandson Speech

The book caught my eye when i was browsing around in my university's bookshop.
Great looking cover i must say. It was love at first sight. How i wish i can get a copy of that but it will cost me around $80 aussie dollars. The book describes and portrays the various definitions of beauty throughout the different periods of human civilisation and is accompanied with masterpieces from western art. Oh, there is another book called On Ugliness as well by the same author. Highly recommended for people who are avid fans of western art and literature.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it also has a lot to do with the beholder's cultural standards. In History of Beauty, renowned author Umberto Eco sets out to demonstrate how every historical era has had its own ideas about eye-appeal. Pages of charts that track archetypes of beauty through the ages ("nude Venus," "nude Adonis," and so forth) may suggest that this book is a historical survey of beautiful people portrayed in art. But History of Beauty is really about the history of philosophical and perceptual notions of perfection and how they have been applied to ideas and objects, as well as to the human body. This survey ranges over such themes as the mathematics of ideal proportions, the problem of representing ugliness, the fascination of the exotic and art for art's sake. I attended the speech given by Mandla Mandela yesterday evening. He's the eldest grandson of Nelson Mandela who celebrated his 90th birthday recently. He holds a Marketing degree too, besides his political science degree. The evening started off with a traditional Australian aboriginal dance to welcome the guests. I have never seen such aboriginal dances before so it's a great experience for me. Mandla Mandela went on to talk about his family history and how he is going to continue Nelson Mandela's legacy. Long but enriching speech. Warm and down to earth man, i guess he is trying hard to step out of his grandfather's shadow and want everyone to see him as a separate individual with his own identity, not just another Mandela. Hope that the apartheid system and beliefs are wholly abolished.

Back in Chilly Sydney

yes i am back in downunder for my final semester. And it's freezing cold right now.
It sure feels a whole lot different from last semester when i was taking QMA. I felt happier now:)
There is a long list of places and things to do for my last semester here. Too many places to go to, too many things to see.

Here's my draft travelling plan, there might be or should i say should have more to add to the list:

1. Hunter Valley, Sydney (this will be the third time, i just can't get enough of the breathtaking scenery, cheese factories and wineries)
2. Port Stephens( hope to see the whales this time)
3. Canberra for the spring festival,( heard that it's a boring place but no harm going to the country's capital city)
4. Wollongong
5. Take part in City To Surf, Sydney 2008( an annual mega marathon event)
6. Visit all the art musuems in Sydney
7. Visit the Opera House again, Opera Bar
8. Cafes, cafes and more cafes
9. Might be going to Gold Coast again, I love Surfer's Paradise!
10.Give me more of Bondi Beach, i just love having sunday breakfast by the world renowned beach
11. Oh ya, the Paddington Markets too

Well, my mum will be coming to Australia next year for my graduation, still have another chance to have an Australian tour again. Australian outback? nah, not for me, i need shopping.

I bought some fruits just now, aussie grown red strawberries..they smell really good by the way.



My mango papaya air fresherner, makes my room smells yummy delicious.

Strawberry pancakes!!!!

I try to make it look better next time! If only i have some blueberries to complement the strawberries(The plate looks wet because of the maple syrup).

Absolute Boyfriend 絶対彼氏最高！

I have just finished watching Absolute Boyfriend絶対彼氏, starring 速水もこみち。イケメンですね！
Two thumbs up and five popcorns for the drama.　最高のドラマですよ！ The ending left me in tears,awwww itwas way too touchingメッチャ感動. Go to www.crunchyroll.com and start watching! The song playing on my blog is the theme song for the drama, the lyrics are just as sweet as the drama.　お帰り、Sweet home.　帰る場所、愛をありがとう。



'Love is the start of every miracle'.愛はすべての奇跡の始まりです。 The things that they mentioned in the drama left me thinking more about love. Knight might be a robot but 'his heart is warmer than humans' and he was always there to protect,love and encourage Riko. I love the way he expressed his love for Riko explicitly in public. He always like to tell everyone that he is Riko's ideal boyfriend-俺はリイコの理想の彼氏ですーThat was so funny yet heartwarming at the same time.

Anyway, it might be a really profitable business if a robot boyfriend like Knight is produced for the masses.


I will be leaving for Sydney tomorrow. Good Luck to myself. One more semester to go!
I will definitely work even harder for my dreams. God is setting me a challenge and I have agreed to take it up. Good Luck to Captain too.

Pancakes ホットケーキ Trial

I tried out the pancake mixture Captain bought for me the other day. Well,i guess the pancakes turned out alright. I used Nutella to make the heart shape decoration on the top of the stack of pancakes, along with some maple syrup. I couldn't find any fruits to use and thus i have to use nutella, seems to be the only thing available in my mother's kitchen that i can use for decoration:)
I am going to make pancakes for Captain on Tuesday...planning to use fresh strawberries, blueberries(Captain loves berries)and peaches, together with plain yogurt for the toppings. I will need some mint leaves for garnishing and to give a refreshing touch to compliment the sour yet sweet tastes of the fruits, wonder whether i will be able to find them.

I tried to do some photography styling too but have limited materials too, hehe.
The lightings weren't that good. I have much to learn about photography.


The latest issue of 女子のカメラ is out. I couldn't find it in Kinokuniya in Singapore...残念～ The magazine -- a literal translation will be Girls' Camera-- showcasing photography works of women on everyday life, culinary, children and etc.



I want a Canon EOS too.

Francfranc Toasters

These toasters from Francfranc are simply wonderful! FranFran is a popular modern living concept shop in Japan.
I would love to serve freshly toasted bread with the words 'love', together with some warm cuppucino to my husband when he wakes up for breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, i will make some pancakes next week for Captain.

Our first jigsaw

My first jigsaw puzzle with Captain. I love the design of the puzzle--Disney World Heritage Tour-- hope to visit all these places with Captain soon.We took less than half a day to complete the whole puzzle.We had good or rather excellent teamwork, don't you agree Captain? I am so going to get my hands on that Agean Sea Disney jigsaw puzzle.

My mum bought me a Vera Wang princess flower perfume today. The bottle is so gorgeous! A perfume fit for a princess indeed, erm not referring to me.

Yeah! Finally bought Albion Skin Conditioner from this beautician at Lucky Plaza, nevermind the dodgy location but this is the only place in Singapore that carries the Albion line of products. I heard that Lin Zhi Ling is a great fan of Albion skin conditioner too. Well, the skin conditioner helps to improve skin renewal and to brighten the skin, giving it a more even texture.I am going to buy the Summer Chiffon powder on my next visit to the beautician!!! That's one of Albion signature product.
I'm thinking of switching from Shiseido to Albion's Exage White skincare line soon. Shiseido is good as well, especially its white lucent range which i have been using for almost 3 years. Thumbs up for White Lucent range of brightening moisturising gel.

Soak it in water and it turn into a paper mask! Amazingly, isn't it? Alright...the dish doesn't look too fab i know.
