Peranakan Museum

Chicken Rice@Maxwell Food Centre
There was a long queue at this chicken rice stall when Captain and I reached the place. The chicken rice turned out to be quite bad...the rice was hard and dry. It looked good in the pictures though:)The soup was not tasty at all too. I found nothing special about it, Captain agreed too. We wasted almost half an hour in the queue. Well, good experience, at least we have tasted it.







A little walk down memory lane of Singapore history....i love the pre World War II shophouses in Singapore. Most of them have been converted to chic restaurants and pubs and many may not know the stories behind these beautiful shophouses. Everytime when i walked past these shophouses, i could not help but wonder who exactly stayed in these places more than half a century ago. Sometimes, i will imagine coolies, samsui women, japanese prostitutes(they existed even before World War II in Singapore), Japanese soldiers and British merchants on those streets. Do i sound like a history textbook? I realised that i always have countless theories and explanations about every single thing i see on the street. I love talking. Captain knows exactly what this means.








Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore. There was a rumour saying that he married a local Chinese woman in Singapore(he already had a British wife) and i have seen her picture and grave on one of the TV programmes. INTERESTING.

Captain told me not to include the cab in this picture as it kind of ruin the whole picture. I beg to differ though. I told him that it would be interesting to look at this picture 10 years or even 30 years later to see how the designs of cabs in Singapore have evolved. Try looking at pictures from the 70s, the cabs back then looked antique.

This restaurant is called True Blue, serving authentic Peranakan cuisine. It is located next to the Peranakan Museum and the building that it is situated in, is actually a Peranakan shophouse, built almost a century ago.



Here we are at the Peranakan Museum. It was nice to see students having excursions to this place to discover the rich heritage of Peranakan. There are three levels of galleries in the museum, showcasing the culinary wares, wedding ceremonies, funeral rites, religion, costumes and not forgetting the exquisite embroideries made by Nonyas(female peranakans). Captain looked bored when he was in the museum...hahahaha and i was the only one jumping around, extremely thrilled by the huge display of ceramic wares. I don't blame him, he did not watch Little Nonya.

Origins Paradise Found Balinese Body Scrub is the lastest addition to my vanity collection. Oh yeah, the Shiseido eye treatment cream too. I felt guilty but i seriously need some maintenance. I am going to Malaysia tomorrow for reunion dinner with relatives from my maternal side. Happy Chinese New Year!!!! Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Flowers@ Singapore Botanic Garden

Captain and Christine@Botanic Gardens....
It has been 10 over years since the last time i stepped into this place.

I tried to practise my photography skills again:)Why don't they have a rose garden kept in temperature controlled rooms? That might help to attract more people...




I love Frangipani...this name is derived from a Italian merchant whose last name was Frangipani.

Dinner@WhiteDog Cafe, Vivo City


Calamari Fritti, marinated to perfection and there was a strong buttery herbs aroma.
The chilli sauce from WhiteDog Cafe--> i will give it a 5/5. There's something about it that really made me longed for more of it...

My Mango Delight Chicken, The chicken breast meat was succulent but the mango fillings was way below my expectations. I couldn't detect the fresh aroma of mangoes when it was first served on the table and upon eating it, the fillings tasted foreign to me....did not taste like mango at all:( Did the high heat destroy the natural flavour of the mango fillings? If that's the case, it would be such a shame as i thought that the marriage of the taste of mangoes with fresh chicken breast would be perfect...The mashed potato with the chicken tasted great on the other hand.

Captain's Tenderloin Steak....he ordered it to be in Medium but it looked so bloody in the inside...but he commented that it was not that impressive.
I found the kitchen staff to be too rowdy and the noise from the kitchen had ruined the ambience of the restaurant.....

Kiwi Passion, tasted quite natural.
